Other FEE64s show a noise transient and do not update - ASIC check load did not fix - probably requires

01:40 Phong noticed a significant difference in the noise in the (raw) low energy spectra a few of the FEEs when
comparing the runs right before and right after the power-cycle (See Attachment 12) required to recover
the DAQ crash last afternoon (June 5th).
NNAIDA 22, 21, 14, and 13 had a much higher count rate after the power cycle, and what seems like a lower
threshold. We can't observe the pulser peak in any of those.
NNAIDA 13 has the highest count rate, and the waveforms show what looks like noise with a regular
frequency (attachments 4 - 7)
For reference, we include the waveform of other positive FEEs 8-11

Despite the large amounts of noise in the detectors it is still possible to observe decay curves. They are
cleaned up a lot
by applying a multiplicity cut (attachment 22 with attachment 23 without. Further cuts and vetos could be
applied to clean up further.
The fit in attachment 22 gives a half life of 182ms which is not quite the expected 162ms but a reasonable
first fit.

OH, DK, CG | First beam runs | For BigRIPS run numbers, they are available online: http://bripscnt01.rarfadv.riken.jp/runsum/index.php
21:30 AIDA and BRIKEN are ready to go -- so we closed the door and asked the BigRIPS team to send the beam to
F11. It will take about 30 minutes as they want to recalibrate one of the Faraday cups.
22:09: Beam is coming to F11. AIDA sub-run R13_17 is running at 22:10 so nearly the same time.
BigRIPS run number 0140
BRIKEN file name 170329_2213_40Mg Run 0. It is started at 22:13. R13_18 for AIDA
See attachment 1 for biases.
23:12: We notice that BigRIPS began the run 0141 at 23:08
AIDA subrun R13_36 began about or near 23:07 or 23:08
BRIKEN run number 170329_2313_40Mg Run 1
All system-wide checks passed (excepting nnaida6 clock status which is a known issue)
Statistics rates look reasonable, except that the nnaida 16 23 24 are even higher than before when the beam
was off (~200k)
23:59 - AIDA crashed. Merger stopped. When attempting to stop the run, the following error is displayed:
STATE for nnaida1 returned with an error
error: SOAP http transport timed out after 20000 ms

We kill off the merge and tape server.
DAQ itself comes back after a reset. Attempting to open the tape service, however, yields an error
Cannot issue more Access Tokens
ClaimTapeServer returned:-
3 Capability table is full.
30.3.2017
0:56 When attempting to bring AIDA back up, eventually nnaida10 was not showing merger data before enabling the
ASIC readout data. On the run control, nnaida10 consistently showed that its data transfer was not enabled.
Attempting to reset etc., then eventually issuing Go would drop all the data transfers.
After a power cycle by the standard method, essentially the problem persists, except that it is nnaida 7 8 9 10
(the whole block) which shows the problem where we cannot get the enabled data transfer to stick. |

OH TD | Less HEC events than expected in DSSD3 | we are noticing we appear to see less implant events in detector 3 than we expect. This was first noticed in the xy spectra of the DSSD in the Go4 online.
As part of testing we have lowered the threshold in aida09 which from the xy appeared to have less events.
Following this we still seemed to see less events.
OH downloaded a selection of recent files to analyse. Looking at the total number of HEC events it appears that aida09, aida10 and aida12 are all seeing less HEC events than I would expect.
The ratio of HEC events in aida09 to aida11 was 0.36.
Looking at the energies of the HEC events there appeared to be less events everywhere and not just a threshold issue. We thought it could then be radiation damage and poor
charge collection. To test this we raised the bias to 120V on DSSD3.
The same test was again performed and the ratio again came out to be 0.36
We did not appear to recover any HEC events
Comparing the scaled energy distributions of aida09 and aida11 we see no evidence of a different energy response other than an increase in lower energy events in aida09 due to the lower threshold
I now think it may be a hardware issue. Will look at the last file before the most recent powercycle.
Using TD's analyser program can confirm the rate between aida09 and aida11 before 08:30 this morning was ~1:1.
The problem seems to have appeared during the power cycles following this. |

OH | T9 Test Bench | T9 test setup at Daresbury was powered up and noise levels were checked using a pulser peak.
A 1V peak was used. For most channels this corresponded to a peak position at around +-11000 from the zero point at 9000.
An example of this is shown in attachment 1 showing the peak in nnaider 11, ASIC 4, ADC 11.
It was also observed that for both nnaider 11 and 12 (FEE modules corresponding to negative signals) that channels 2, 56 and 59 were not contributing to the rate. See attachment 2.
Upon investigating the missing channels ADC spectra the only apparent issue appeared in nnaida 11 ASIC 4, ADC 8. Which is plot 4.7.L. Here we see the peak much higher coming in at around channel 63000. See attachment 3.
The remaining missing channels in the rate plot appear to have normal amplitudes with maybe slightly higher noise. FWHM of ~60 as oppposed to ~18. Discussed more below.
Also done was a noise measurement across the all the ASICs. To do this an ADC was chosen belonging to each of the ASICs and the pulser peak location and FWHM was recorded. The reaults are as shown below.
FEE# ASIC/ADC Centroid Location FWHM
11 1.8 42951 19.38
11 2.8 41012 17.48
11 3.8 41929 20.01
11 4.8 41302 17.88
12 1.8 41830 17.38
12 2.8 41119 16.01
12 3.8 42669 18.30
12 4.8 41811 15.21
13 1.8 24329 15.05
13 2.8 24034 13.64
13 3.8 24209 15.79
13 4.8 24607 13.29
14 1.8 24650 16.19
14 2.8 24618 14.12
14 3.8 23934 15.04
14 4.8 22584 14.36
14 4.8 22584 14.36
It was seen that the noise was fairly low which is to be expected as there were no dtectors connected and only a short length of kapton cables connected to the board. |

OH | BigRIPS particle ID | I've been going through collecting the BigRIPS root files with Phong and making sure they are on AIDAs1.
The files we have for NP1306 are not the standard format so to get particle ID you need to do this command taken
from the RIKEN elog.
Command to construct the PID in the merged files from preliminary data:
Example file a11111_b1181_e_1130_ion.root
tree->Draw("(F11ICADC[0]+F11ICADC[1]+F11ICADC[2]+F11ICADC[3]+F11ICADC[4]+F11ICADC[5])/6:F11Pla_TM-F3Pla_TM+F5X*0.0383261>>h(500,0,25,500,0,16000)","","colz");
Though these root files were not created by the BigRIPS team so can be cleaned up further but should be good
enough for initial analysis. |
