nnaida2 , the bare test FEE64 in T9, is successfully running with two streams connected to nndhcp177 ( a Linux64 computer )
Merge running on nndhcp177 is receiving the streams and merging them.
nnaida2 has a slow pulser , 100Hz , connected to one waveform input.
Apparently waveforms are being merged with ASIC data. ( stream 0 and 1 from nnaida2 )
Next step is to add a Tape server to nndhcp177 and verify the recorded events.

Wed Feb 24 15:46:11 2016, PJCS, OR64 - OR of all the ASIC discriminator channels after application of a mask

Firmware version8 number 8 has an OR64 added which can be routed, using the Local control, to the Trigger output and hence seen at the front panel Fast NIM LEMO00 connector.
The OR64 is the OR of all the ASIC Discriminators. Each rising edge of a discriminator signal will give a 10ns pulse on the Fast NIM signal. If two coincide there will be one pulse.
The attached 'scope photograph shows the pulser trigger output ( orange trace ) and the OR64 signal ( blue trace) .
The delay shown is 98nS.
nnaida2 has no ASICs mounted so this timing is for the VHDL and MACB system.
Further tests will be run with the full T9 system ( nnaida11 -> 14 + detector ) and this entry updated with that result.

During 'SETUP' the ASIC readout clock ( 500KHz ) is synchronised to the SYNC pulse in V8.10 and later versions of the VHDL.

To update the FEE64 firmware:-
- Power-up the FEE64 modules that you wish to update.
- Identify the file to be used ( FEE_GF_Feb16_15.bin at 14/4/2016 )
- This file should be in the Server ( e.g. aidas1 ) at /MIDAS/Aida.
- Edit the file /MIDAS/Aida/FlashPgm.csh and change the file name at the "flashcp" command line to be the file you wish to update the FEE64s with.
- To run the file, and hence update the firmware, open the RunControl page and select "Program Flash Memories" from the menu of System Functions.
- Each of the FEE64 cards in the system at the time will update their firmware using the commands from the /MIDAS/Aida/FlashPgm.csh file.
- Once complete a log window will be displayed with a report about each FEE64.
- Power-cycle the FEE64s to load and run the new firmware.
- Use the "FEE Temperatures" page to check that all the FEE64 cards have the same version of the firmware loaded as expected. ( 0x10300C12 at 14/4/2016 )

I have taken videos with an Infrared camera of the power being supplied to one isolated ASIC on a mezzanine.
The power supply is a bench supply with current limit set to 3A.
The centre of the ASIC glowed white hot for a short time and then the whole ASIC shows as hot. Ths the short is on the ASIC and not the bond wires IMO.
I am unable to globally publish the videos at present as I only have a private google drive account.

Re:- Memory check problem..... the required log file is not at /MIDAS/XilinxLinux/...... The file is a log file placed
in the FEE64 root file system. The code will be altered in time to reflect the new location by using a local variable.
Re:- aida07. This module should be urgently removed and sent back to Daresbury for repair. This measurement could be
indicative of the worse problems with this module.
Re:- Earthing. Please could you add some photos of the installation. ( apologies if they are already here ;-) If I

Used a program to sort through the settings files located in /MIDAS/DB/EXPERIMENTS/AIDA/Settings_FIle_Name/nnaider1,2,3... and /MIDAS/DB/EXPERIMENTS/AIDA/Options.
By comparing the parameter values we got from this to the value we know they should be set to we found some discrepancies in FEEs 1 and 3-8 with values being set
to 0xd rather than the value to which they should have been saved to. This was corrected and new settings and options files were created. Last night we saw that
the DAQ is able to load these files correctly and that the values remain as they should be.
An excel sheet is attached which makes it easy to compare the values parsed by the code to the default values. To do this it is best to sort the data by FEE, then
type, then type number then parameter value number using the sort function on the data tab. After copying this data into the new settings sheet it will flag any
values that do not match the default values in red. |
