Mon Dec 4 10:34:48 2023, NH, AIDA Todo for 11.12.23
|
This is a short list of things todo or check before the test beam time on 11.12.23
Updated after 15:00 CET meeting
1. Replace water interlock
- Also allows testing of AIDA for 24h+
2. Decide on snout configuration: 1 or 2 BB18s (plus BB7 plus bPlastic)
It is U so if we put 2 we could damage 2 instead of just 1 (of course we try to be careful)
To decide which bPlas is installed (only 1 will be bothered): Upstream is preferred by HA
Install Peter's light blocking frame between bPlastic and AIDA
3. Replace aida04 with a working FEE64
Important as aida04 is in deadtime and not very useful
4. Investigate/replace aida06
Less urgent because 2 strips and runs with 0 dead time
5. If 2 BB18s, add another 8 working FEE64s to the system
Note: Cannot do 2BB18s and 1BB7 (cannot power/cool 17 FEEs)
6. Test AIDA firmware fix for individual ASIC controls (especially if BB7<->AIDA will be tested)
BB7<->AIDA will not be tested probably, as PCB will not arrive.
Still good to check if possible
7. Decide on FEE to take pulser (assuming no distribution/inverter available)
Test implant response with pulser and SC41 trigger? |

Wed Mar 13 14:50:04 2024, NH, [HowTo] Backup and Restore Raspberry Pi SD Cards
|
Micro SD cards used by the raspberry pis are cheap but prone to failing
If the system won't boot and the SD card is read only it may have failed. Best way is to buy a new micro SD card (16 or 32GB) and restore a backup
I have uploaded an image of nnrpi2 (AIDA@GSI) to aida-3 (/home/npg/nnrpi2.img)
To backup an SD card
dd if=/dev/mmcblk0 of=nnrpi2.img status=progress
To restore a backup to a new SD card
dd if=nnrpi2.img of=/dev/mmcblk0 status=progress
(/dev/mmcblk0 name may differ on different machines, is for a laptop with built in SD card reader) |

TapeServer rate still ~5 Mbytes/sec - See attachment 3
Temperature and HV ok - See attachment 5 & 6
System-wide checks OK except nnaida7 fails ADC calibration as usual.
!!!
Victor said that the run AIDA R2_249 is missing in the correlation merge data. This is the run when the
correlation scaler was reset (as DTAS was running out of range in some of their timing histograms) (See
elog end of Sunday)
!!!
02:23 Rate in DSSD#3 card 9 and 12 slowly reaching 100kHz while 14 and 15 ~ 50kHz. See attachment 7
TapeServer rate ~ 5.5 kHz
03:25 Change of DTAS run:
DTAS run 49 started
BigRIPS run 2020
AIDA run R2_286
Experiment still running smoothly. No significant change since last comments 2h ago.
Leakage current in detector 3 is increasing slowly see attachment 8 & 9
05:25 Change of DTAS run:
Note: DTAS run stopped during AIDA R2_305 and re-started during R2_306.
DTAS run 52 started
BigRIPS run 2021
AIDA run R2_306
Pretty quiet night shift.
Stat & Rate in attachment 10 - DSSD#3 FEE card 9 back down to 60kHz

Sun Nov 27 19:33:00 2016, Liu, PV, AE, F11 degrader setting (night Nov27-Nov28)
|
Analysis of files for two more settings of F11 degrader to optimize implantation of 40Mg.
+ setting 1: from Nov 27th, 22:16
Fixed degrader: 3 mm Pb + 1 mm Al, Variable degrader: 1.3 mm W + 2 mm Al
AIDA run: R26_0 to R26_38
BigRIPS run: 40Mg1037 (partial) to 40Mg1040
see attachments: run1038_imp*png
+ setting 2: from Nov 28th, 1:38.
Entered F11 during stripper foil change and removed 1mm Al fixed degrader (same as during Nov 26th - ~ run
40Mg1012).
Fixed degrader: 3 mm Pb, Variable degrader: 1.3 mm W + 2 mm Al
AIDA run: R26_39 to ...
BigRIPS run: from 40Mg1041 to ...
see attachments: run104x_imp*png (2 hours of data: run 1041 and 1042)
Setting 2 moved implantation depth one or two strips upstream (1.2 according to calculations). 40Mg seems to be
implanted about the third strip; a conclusion with LOW STATISTICS, but consistent with the trend of how the
implantation position depends on neutron number for the higher-count isotopes.
Setting 2 seems to be our best option (at least without going into F11 and reconfiguring degraders). We will
continue accumulating data with it.
Attachments: the 1D plot shows the ion implant position (DSSD) gated for all ions and for Al and Mg gates in the
PID. The 2D plots show the PID with gates on implants in different DSSDs.

Sun Nov 27 22:35:37 2016, Liu, PV, AE, Ion hit pattern in AIDA after degrader changing
|
After changing degrader to optimize 40Mg, hit pattern in AIDA is shown in figure below.
The implantation position changed from right side position of first DSSD to center position of last DSSD. |
Sat Nov 26 20:26:06 2016, Liu, AE, Analysis of implantation profile in AIDA
|
Here we show the PID plot and implantation depth in AIDA from BigRIPS file 40Mg1012 (1 hr of data from 20:30 in Nov 26th), merged with AIDA files R10_8 to R10_29
The more neutron-rich isotopes have a shorter range in AIDA, and seem to be implanted towards the first layers of the stack. For 40Mg - most exciting case(?) - there is only one count at DSSD1. But comparing to the position of 38Mg, we could deduce that the implantation depth is already good. need more data analyzed to decide if we need to remove a bit of degrader.
Degrader settings: 3mm Pb (at BRIKEN PE shielding), variable of 1mm W (+1mmAl) + 0.3mmW (+1 mm Al)
Attachment 1: DSSD of detected implant for cuts in the PID.
Attachment 2: PID from F8 to F11.
BigRIPS trees produced with macro at gamma16@a04:exp/users/alfredo/macro/MakePIDTree.C (or MakeAllTree.C, depending on version of merger)

1500: Attachments 23-28 show waveforms, low E and high E spectra for nnaida6+11.
Increasing fast comp threshold to 0xf shifts position of energy cut off away from zero point, as expected, but does not remove low E peak around ch 32500.
1530: Increase bias to +150V on det 1 (ch 1). Attachments 29-34 show waveforms, low E and high E spectra with increased bias voltage. Diode link threshold at 0x23
V high E events in .L spectra show reduction over those before bias increase.
In .H spectra from both nnaida6+11, increased bias reduced threshold. Finite threshold still seen on n-side however (greater than on p-side).
All references/comparisons in this ELog entry re. nnaida11 are w.r.t. to spectra/waveforms seen at this 'standard' setting.
1544: Changed diode link thresh on nnaida11 to 0x11. Attachments 35-37.
Saved run R42.
High energy spectra saw threshold increase of ~700ch, but no other changed were observed.
1555: Change nnaida11 diode link thresh to 0x29. Saved run R43. Attachments 38-40.
Saw reduction in high E threshold by ~700 ch but no other obvious changes.
1610: Changed diode link thresh on nnaida11 to 0x14 and preAmp reference to 0x20. Saved run R44. Attachments 41-44.
Waveforms look much worse, more flatlining that previously seen.
High E spectra show marginally higher threshold. No significant change in low E spectra.
1630: Changed nnaida11 preAmp ref to 0x40 and diode link thresh to 0x38. Saved run R45. Attachments 45-47
Waveforms look similar to original setting. High E spectra show no significant change.
Low E spectra have small peak near 32k and v. wide stretching to top of FSR.
1643: Changed nnaida11 preAmp ref to 0x60 and diode link thresh to 0x58. Saved run R46. Attachments 48-50.
Waveforms settled on ~7500 much more frequently, with most signals beginning and returning to ~7500.
High E spectra thresh at ~33500 as it was with 'standard' setting.
Low E spectra show vast reduction in high E rubbish, looking more like an exponential decay compared to previous wide 'mound'.
Big improvement over previous settings. Will try all n-side FEE with these settings later.
1700: Changed nnaida11 diode link thresh to 0x5a. Saved run R47 (~2hr run during tea break and other work).
0x60 HEC fast comparator threshold (all FEE64s except nnaida30) 0x02.
19.04 R47 ends Change BigRIPS setting from 110Zr to 88Ge
19.15 R48 Pulser walkthough BNC PB-4 amplitude 90,000-10,000 @ 10,000 step, freq 25Hz.
nnaida7 showed no SYNCS.
Used procedure described above (1202) - nnaida7 recovered OK
19.28 Started run R48 - pulser walkthrough.
R48 ends OK..
1944: Changed fast comparator threshold on LEC for...
- nnaida 1: 0xb -> 0x30
- nnaida2: 0x18 -> 0x30
- nnaida6: 0x10 -> 0x30
- nnaida10: 0x10 -> 0x30
- nnaida13: 0x12 -> 0x30
- nnaida14: 0x14 -> 0x30
Change, for all n-side FEE64s, preAmp reference from previous value to 0x60 and diode link thresh to 0x5a.
Saved settings to /MIDAS/DB/EXPERIMENTS/AIDA/2015Apr30-diode-mod3
(around) 20:30 pm: started data taking for 88Ge setting. First runs are with empty H target at MINOS/DALI for transmission measurement.
Degrader also changed during run R50. Initially: 0.6mm + 0.4mm + (0.3 mm?) + 1mm. The 1mm degrader was removed after ~ 1hr of run.
2300: NNAIDA#11: changed Fast Comparator of Low Energy channels to 0x40. It was set at 0xFF, and no discriminator data being produced. Rate of ~12 kHz for discriminator events in NNAIDA#11 for this setting (comparable to other FEE64s).
