NT Brewer | New preamps arrived at Oak Ridge and tested working. |
Collaborators,
Attached is a phone photo of example signals from the new preamps with 3 3He tubes connected to a scope. Scope channels 1,2,3 (color y,c,m respectively) are preamp channels 1,2,3 while 4 (green) is open. Trigger is on channel 3, at 500mV/div and other channels are at 500,200,and 20 mV/Div for channels 2,1,4 respectively. Time scale, though glared out should be 10us per div ( although we saw longer rise times as well).
Signals were all good for all channels. Coincident with real signals were other negative signals ~15x (750mV/50mV magenta/green) smaller and with a different shape. No positive signals were observed in any channel.

This picture is representative of the signals of 2 new preamps as well as the functional spare already at UT.
Additionally, the two preamps sent for repair have been received.

Configuration of BRIKEN DACQ hardware:
Detector->VME->ADC->Channel
New configuration:
Ancillaries are moved to crate #2: V2A8 (SIS3316)
YSO is on crate #1: V1A7 (SIS3316)
V2A4 (SIS3302) failed and was replaced wit spare unit (Chan #5 missing)
Ancillaries are reduced to F11 Plastic (Right and Left, Direct and Attenuated)
and AIDA Plastic veto. The 10Hz pulser signal is also fed to this ADC (Dead Time Pulser).
YSO provides 5 signals: xa, xb, ya, yb and dynode.
Each signal is splitted. One branch of xa,xb,ya,yb is amplified
the other goes directly (but it might be eventually attenuated).

A. Tarifeņo-Saldivia | Neutron efficiency - Scanning on Z preliminary result |
We have carried out a scanning of the neutron efficiency with respect to the position along the Z-axis (AIDA and BEAM hole) of a 252Cf neutron source. A preliminary analysis is presented based on data from the online. A plot with the comparison of the simulations and experimental data is attached. The experimental results are in good agreement with the GEANT4 simulations of the studies for design of the neutron detector. The simulations for the design of the hybrid mode were calculated using 148 3He counters. The version of the hybrid detector assembled during the current campaign (July-2016) is using 140 3He counters. The missing counters correspond to tubes located on the outer part of PE, thus the effect of these counters on the total neutron efficiency is minimal.

At 19:00 access to Exp. Area was closed and the tuning

We did a background measurement

In the attached figure 1 one can see a plot of the rate
(neutrons/10s) in the BRIKEN detector during this time
The rate was at high as 150n/s during this period.
We estimate that the influence of the 252Cf source is about 15n/s
(corresponds to the lowest rates)
Also attached are pictures of the Top and Bottom plastic veto detectors
mounted just above and below the hole in the shielding.
Interestingly the bottom sees less counts at high energy
and this could be related to the 10cm lead wall raised
before the degrader to protect AIDA that covers only partially
the top detector.
Also attached is the neutron spectrum for the different rings superposed.
