Ignoring 'hot' channels, reduce rates to < 50Hz/channel for p+n slow comparator threshold 120-150keV and n+n slow comparator threshold 350-400keV
If we assume that this estimates the 5x sigma threshold => p+n sigma c. 27keV rms, 64keV FWHM and n+n sigma c. 75keV rms, 176keV FWHM

Given FEE64-DSSSD cable lengths, optimal p+n performance is c. 40-50keV FWHM so current tests begin to approach this - little extrinsic noise observed for preamp signals
We continue to observe significant ( though very much improved ) extrinsic noise for n+n strips so current noise performance could be improved by x2-3.

Overall, effect of ThorLabs filters appears to belimited. Perhaps not unexpected as FEE64 adaptor PCBs also have a HV RC filter.

11.45 AIDA discriminator rates - see attachment 1
Today's rates similar to yesterday's rates

14.00 Commence positioning of AIDA. Adjust stand height using laser scanner and aligned to wall
references. Determine that the most forward position AIDA DSSSD#1 is ~3cm downstream of
EURICA centre. Need to move DSSSDs ~6cm upstream and lengthen DSSSD - AIDA adpptor PCB
      cabling. In progress.

20.50 Update /etc/dhcp/dhcpd.conf

nnaida19 is faulty, nnaida28 is not used - see https://elog.ph.ed.ac.uk/AIDA/193
      We have swapped FEE modules for nnaida19/20 for nnaida27/28 such that nnaida19 -> 28, nnaida20 -> 27,
      nnaida27 -> 19, nnaida28 -> 20.
The power cables for nnaida19 and nnaida28 have also been swapped - the power cable to nnaida19
*might* be faulty as we have experienced problems at this crate position before. Also swapped
AIDA FEE PSU outlets to ensure pairs of FEE64 cards are powered from the same PSU outlet.

Entry  Thu Mar 23 10:56:29 2017, CG, OH, Thursday 23rd March - DSSD replacement + move 7x
10.00 Investigating DSSD2 (MSL BB18-1000 3058-9) missing channels, found broken bond wires on rear side (~1/4).
      Replaced with 3058-3.
      Stack order now:
            | 3058-4
      beam | 3058-3
            | 2998-23

            | 3058-6
            V 3058-7

12.00 All detectors, including the new replacement bias correctly (see att. 1).

14.00 Shunji has mentioned moving AIDA+BRIKEN forward by ~1m due to concerns about focusing the accurately at such a rearward position.
The afternoon was spent removing the EURICA rails to enable the push forward of AIDA+BRIKEN.

18.00 The DAQ was set running with the new detector included. All system checks passed apart from nnaida19 ADC calibration.
Pulser peak widths are mostly ~70-90ch for all FEEs. This is similar to Tuesday for the n-side FEEs (att. 2-4) and an improvement for the p-side FEEs (att. 5-7).
Having said that, some spectra show peaks with shoulders or tails and a few feature multiple discreet peaks.
We will look at this over the next couple of days, depending on when the final move/alignment of AIDA+BRIKEN is completed.

1800: Spent majority of the day moving AIDA forward and into EURICA.

So far everything seems to fit very well, we have just noticed a few points of possible mechanical conflict that should be watched when inserting/removing AIDA into EURICA

  • Overhead LN2 pipes are lower than the top of the FEE tower. These have been loosely cable tied to some other cables to keep them away from AIDA. Need to make sure they don't move upon filling of LN2
  • Yellow water pipe at front of AIDA may be pinched by EURICA structure upon full closure. Will check first time we close.
  • Horizontal screw at base of nose is the most rearward point of contact and means AIDA cannot be inserted further than this. Already sufficiently far into EURICA so not a problem in that sense.
  • Table itself can be moved to within ~5cm of EURICA structure without disturbing cabling along floor too much or touching rails.
  • Front leg fits easily under EURICA structure.

Due to the number and file size of the photos, I can't upload them here so have made them available at:
