System  wide checks at 7am CET

All seems fine, nothing significant to report

Slight increase of dead time noted in FEE 3, 5 and 7.

-----
Clock status test result: Passed 16, Failed 0

Understand status as follows
Status bit 3 : firmware PLL that creates clocks from external clock not locked
Status bit 2 : always logic '1'
Status bit 1 : LMK3200(2) PLL and clock distribution chip not locked to external clock
Status bit 0 : LMK3200(1) PLL and clock distribution chip not locked to external clock
If all these bits are not set then the operation of the firmware is unreliable

aida05 fault      0x500 :      0x56e :      110
White Rabbit error counter test result: Passed 15, Failed 1

Understand the status reports as follows:-
Status bit 3 : White Rabbit decoder detected an error in the received data
Status bit 2 : Firmware registered WR error, no reload of Timestamp
Status bit 0 : White Rabbit decoder reports uncertain of Timestamp information from WR

-----

FPGA Timestamp error counter test result: Passed 16, Failed 0
If any of these counts are reported as in error
The ASIC readout system has detected a timeslip.
That is the timestamp read from the time FIFO is not younger than the last

  337   Thu May 20 14:56:33 2021 OHThursday 20th May 16:00 - 24:00
16:00 p+n threshold 0xc (120keV)
      n+n threshold DSSD2 0x20 (250keV) ASICS 1-3, 0x64 ASIC4
      n+n threshold DSSD2 0x19 (250keV) ASICS 1-3, 0x64 ASIC4

Dead time has increased from yesterday. From the elog this appears to coincide with their changing of the spill structure.

17:30 Grafana informs us we have hit 10uA on DSSD2. This is fine with the size of the detector

18:12 Gregor noticed that at 18:02 the rate in AIDA increased. This could be related to the autofill starting around now.
The deadtimes in FEE6 and 8 have risen to around 6.25%.
Looking at this mornings and yesterday evenings fill times this behavior isn't observed

18:30 The rates still seem to be increased so is unlikely to be due to the filling which finished at least 10 minutes ago

18:49 Have tried raising the thresholds to 0x1a for the y side strips of DSSD2
This has brought the deadtime of AIDA06 down to 5.53% (This seems to have just been a statistical fluctuation and the rate went back up again in the next file)

18:12 Raised threshold to 0x1b for ASIC1-3 of FEE6 and 8

18:15 System wide checks ok except WR as usual

334   Wed May 19 20:02:27 2021 NHAIDA Dead Time Analysis
Some plots of AIDA dead time (From PAUSE/RESUME data items) against time.

The histograms are binned in intervals of 100 ms, with the blue bars corresponding to dead time in the FEE - the y-value is the percent of the 100ms interval the card was dead.

Beam spills are indicated by the red bars (1 = on spill)

Dead time is mostly dominant in the n+n FEES: fee2, fee4, fee6, fee8 and a 30 second snapshot is shown
Can see deadtime largely seems to occur at the end of a spill - this suggests buffers/queues filling up from the high on-spill rates .

The much quieter p+n strips show a similar pattern but much less frequently.

Deadtime does not always sync up between FEE64s it seems.

IN all case the pause/resume interval seems to only last for less than 100 ms.

Clock status test result: Passed 16, Failed 0

Understand status as follows
Status bit 3 : firmware PLL that creates clocks from external clock not locked
Status bit 2 : always logic '1'
Status bit 1 : LMK3200(2) PLL and clock distribution chip not locked to external clock
Status bit 0 : LMK3200(1) PLL and clock distribution chip not locked to external clock
If all these bits are not set then the operation of the firmware is unreliable

FEE64 module aida02 failed
FEE64 module aida03 failed
FEE64 module aida06 failed
FEE64 module aida10 failed
Calibration test result: Passed 12, Failed 4

If any modules fail calibration , check the clock status and open the FADC Align and Control browser page to rerun calibration for that module

FEE64 module aida09 global clocks failed, 6
Clock status test result: Passed 15, Failed 1

Understand status as follows
Status bit 3 : firmware PLL that creates clocks from external clock not locked
Status bit 2 : always logic '1'
Status bit 1 : LMK3200(2) PLL and clock distribution chip not locked to external clock
Status bit 0 : LMK3200(1) PLL and clock distribution chip not locked to external clock
If all these bits are not set then the operation of the firmware is unreliable

FEE64 module aida09 failed
Calibration test result: Passed 15, Failed 1

If any modules fail calibration , check the clock status and open the FADC Align and Control browser page to rerun calibration for that module

14:20 aida fee rebooted itself. A powercycle was performed. Upon reboot we are seeing extremely large amounts of noise in the FEEs. Looking at the waveforms we have very large 100kHz pick up in the FEEs. This has resulted in 50% deadtime in many FEEs including the p+n.

15:28 Because of extremely high rates across all FEEs have decided to do a powercycle. Before restarting the FEEs will give them a couple of minutes to cool.

18:00 Since the start of the shift we have been trying to recover the system froma large increase in noise following the crash at ~14:00.
During this time NH has entered the area and inspected the system and also grounded the AIDA snout. This provided us with some improvement on the noise.
The rates are still slightly above where we were before the crash but now appear stable. To counteract the dead time in the n+n strips we have raised the threshold to 0x64 for ASIC4 in all FEEs.
We are now running with around 10% deadtime on FEE4 and less elsewhere for n+n. For p+n most have zero dead time apart from FEE11 which is still noisy.
During the time we were trying to recover the system screenshots were taken of the waveforms. He it could be seen that the 100kHz noise was very apparent. Particularly in the n+n strips.

18:08 System wide checks all ok - bar some ADC but waveforms disabled

      Temperatures ok - 210516_1809_Temp

18:37 Performed an ASIC check and now the rates have dropped in all n+n strips. Currently very small amounts of dead time
18:40 Realised this was because it raised the threshold of all strips to 0x64 on the n+n side.

19:25 Removed S452 from 1e2.... drive. Before removing checked with Nic backed up to Lustre. Also verified four ourselves.
Now have around 4.2TB left which will provide around 80 hours of writing

20:16 We noticed iptraf was using around 30% CPU usage. We investigated whether it had any effect on the dead time but from what we have seen it has not.

Understand status as follows
Status bit 3 : firmware PLL that creates clocks from external clock not locked
Status bit 2 : always logic '1'
Status bit 1 : LMK3200(2) PLL and clock distribution chip not locked to external clock

08:11 With the decreased noise I am investigating whether we can lower the thresholds on DSSD2 y strips.
I have set them to 0x19 on ASICS 1-3 and 0x64 on ASIC4
The results of the test appear to indicate that it is the network link that we are saturating causing dead time

Note that the dead time for FEE6 and 8 remains fairly low but the dead time for FEE4 has increased

09:00 They are stopping the run to decrease the bias on the bPlast detector
09:25 No noticable change in AIDA
They will now begin to change the spill structure.

09:46 While they are optimising the 1s spill structure raised the thresholds of FEE6 and 8 back to 0x20. Will start from here when optimising the thresholds post spill change

10:21 Beam is back on AIDA
