|
I have taken videos with an Infrared camera of the power being supplied to one isolated ASIC on a mezzanine.
The power supply is a bench supply with current limit set to 3A.
The centre of the ASIC glowed white hot for a short time and then the whole ASIC shows as hot. Ths the short is on the ASIC and not the bond |

Carried out some further work on failed mezzanine modules.
Inspected them externally and removed the copper block, internally with a bench microscope.

When using the T9 system and running with too much rate in one FEE64 so the system is unbalanced.
I found a good way to understand this and to be able to operate the controls of the FEE64s was to place the Merger in "Pause" mode.
Then the data is extracted from the busy FEE64 but it can still be controlled. |

Continued work on beta-trigger for EURICA. However the system seems to have different noise condition than before, which
we think appeared after we changed power source for FEE's PSU (https://elog.ph.ed.ac.uk/AIDA/220). This is high frequency
noise of low amplitude, with a period of 10 usec.
|
Thu May 12 15:50:48 2016, Patrick, System Checks and firmware update
|
Added two checks to the System wide checks.
Modified the Firmware so the checks work properly.
One check reads the status of the FEE64 clocks and checks
against expected value.
The other check reads the value from all the FEE64 Sync Error Counters, pauses for one second, then reads them again and compares
with the first reading. Any change is reported as an error.

Waveforms very noisy and spectra dominated by low E noise. Upon taking a close look at front end found one of the kaptons to have broken a connection.
Swapped it out for a spare. |

Powered system up from state it was left in last night. Biased to +200V with leakage current 3.9uA @ room temp 23.3oC.
nnaida14 now performing as it was at the beginning of yesterday, with nnaida11 back to having noisy waveforms.
Tried various combinations of grounding to ascertain minimum possible configuration to maintain (or improve) current performance. |

Powered system on from the state it was in last night. Biased to +200V with leakage current 3.9uA at room temp 22.8oC.
Performance of nnaida14 at shaping time of 8us slightly worse than last night - peak now non-Gaussian and double peaked. New source of noise?
Trying different permutations of grounding options initially led to no improvements. |

Current nnaida12 (MAC address 2b:09:e8) has several noisy channels in ASICs 1-3, whilst ASIC4 does not work at all.
Frequently, but not always, ASIC4 fails to load/check.
Additionally, fast discriminators are turned off in settings but show activity in the Hit spectrum. |

Note: kapton #7 may have broken pins next to (deliberately) broken ground pin. Unclear, but should not be used for bias until certain.
Detector BB18 2998-22 connected via 4 45cm kaptons and biased to +200V via nnaida12+14, with leakage current 4.310uA @ room temp 25.4oC.
Turned off FADCs as per PCS instructions in previous entry - no change. Turned back on. |

Mon Feb 16 12:17:21 2015, Patrick Coleman-Smith, MACB update for 50Mhz external clock
|
This version of the MACB has an additional selection at 5 for a ROOT module.
This will operate the Correlation Scalar signals used for RIBF and use the External Clock signal directly for the FEE64 50MHz distribution.
This has been tested at Daresbury with and external clock source and operates successfully with the merger. |

Performed pulser measurements with test setup at Daresbury lab, with main purpose of remembering how to operate the system! The status is similar to
what Chris observed in Elog entry #14. Confirmed ASIC settings as in entry#4 of elog.
The pulser spectra shows FWHM of ~ 13.5 ch for all FEE64 cards with no DSSD connected to the system (i.e. Kapton cables unplugged). |

The code introduces the feature of turning ON or OFF individual ASICs in a FEE64 card. This is achieved by turning off the
clock signal to a individual ASIC, which then will not produce any data.

A late entry for the work I carried out on Thursday.
With the Emco box providing the HV, the pulser peak showed double (or triple) peaks. This was not seen with the SY1527 so I thought this would
be better for looking at peak widths. |

Powered up the remainder and all was well. |

Thu Sep 25 11:35:18 2014, Patrick Coleman-Smith, Removing the MACB from the system
|
I have been wondering if the 0v path from the FEE64s to the MACB where they are joined is a possible problem.
I have been contemplating an isolated LVDS interface for the 50Mhz clock to test the idea.
Fortunately i recalled the 50Mhz internal oscillator in each FEE64. |
Mon Sep 22 09:34:37 2014, Patrick Coleman-Smith, Clue to difference between ASICs 1&2 and 3&4
|
While investigating a VHDL conundrum I have noticed that the Mux ADC serial readout clock has a 'FAST' slew rate on ASICs 1&2 and a normal slew rate
on ASICs 3&4.
Is it possible that the higher slew rate is actually better filtered by the ASIC de-coupling etc than the slower one. |
